Cassidy & Co at 7 Weeks

Well, here are the terrors, probably the last photos of them all together before they go off to their new homes.

I think this photo is simply stunning. Can you see the autumn leaf in his or her mouth, so cute! You can also see how fluffy they are getting now.

I think they must be waiting for food here to all be so attentive. The funny thing about this is that they're all outside their run, and the person taking the photo is inside!

We always wondered why Oscar was so obsessed with brooms and brushes - I think we now know if he too learned to chomp on them from an early age! Their ears have grown lots in the last week or 10 days. They are still floppy, cute. Look at those big paws now.

Apparently their absolute favourite toy is a cardboard box, so we shall dig one out for Cassidy. It's always the way isn't it? You can spend silly money on the latest toys, and kids will want to play with the packaging. It seems the same rule applies to puppies!

Looks like this pup has decided s/he's "King of the Castle"!

I love the different facial expressions and body language in this photo. You can really start to get a feel for their individual personalities. Cassidy is to be one of the two bigger boys, who are apparently like two peas in a pod. Puppy number 6 must have been off for a wander when this photo was taken.

And I think this photo must be one of the cutest ever. All six are her if you look closely and can decipher the mass of furry heads, paws, tails and fat puppy tummies!

48 hours and we'll be picking Cassidy up. We're still not sure whether to take Harry over when we go so he can meet him on "neutral" turf, or just bring Cassidy home for the big hello. Any thoughts from people who have introduced a new pup or dog?

MaMa & PaPa brought be to meet up with Kaylie near our neighbourhood. I wasn't very interested in her at all, until she came home with us!!! I HATED HER!!! Not now, not anymore.

We introduced our little pup to Wiley in the house. When we first brought her home we carried her inside in a little basket (awww) and placed it on a table. Wiley was very curious but stayed really well behaved, and I think he felt safer knowing that she was contained and not taking over "his" house the moment he met her. During those first fewe weeks we closely supervised all their interactions and kept them very short.

I'm not sure if this was the right or wrong thing to do but Wiley really wasn't "upset" by her presence...that came a few months later when Fievel decided she was the alpha dog.

Hopefully someone else will have better advice? : )

Best of luck! I can't wait to see pics!

Bet you can't wait!
I can't believe they are already starting to look like bigger Airedales, especially with those mega paws.

We have done some dog intro stuff. For adults, I would say away from home.

For pups, less of a problem in our experience. Pups have rolled over and done submission.

I will ask Adrian though. He is more savvy about this than me.

Kate (not Pippa who loves most dogs so no probs there)

Katy & Martin, You guys must be so excited. I don't know how you can stand it. I can't wait to see C with H. If it were Sophie, I would introduce them at home, but Sophie has never been territorial about her house. Mind you, the pup might feel more comfortable having Harry in the car, rather than no furry beasty at all. Whatever you decide, I hope it goes well.

awww look at them!!
all so lovely and charming. yea, that last pix is amazing, all cuddled up... cuddled? or... squashed?

would love to see Cassidy soon.

abt dog intro, i would say introduce them on an unfamiliar ground for both - so that they won't feel intimidated or upset that someone is stepping into their territory.

This is just so exciting! I'll bet you can hardly stand it! I remember right before we picked up Lola...I couldn't sleep, I couldn't work & I couldn't do anything but think about our new little puppy!!

We introduced her to S&P at home. I held her in my lap & let them sniff her out and gradually let thme interact with her on the floor. Sherman was a little grouchy (ok...a LOT grouchy) but never tried to hurt her. Penny was smitten from the first second they met & Lola took her cues from them. Stay away from Sherman & play with Penny!

Good luck.

Hi K & M & Harry,

We like ferndoggle's idea...to introduce them at home with Cassidy in your lap. When our mom has brought a new Airedale into our home, there is always a fight if both dogs are the same gender. However, Ezzy Rider came right into our kitchen and we greeted him like we had always known him. Maybe because we are girls and he is such a handsome boy! Since Harry is still new to your home, he may not feel like he's being invaded. We're pretty sure Oscar will help you decide how to make the introduction.

The puppies all in the box together is such an adorable picture!
I met Mitch for the first time out in my dad's workshop. He walked in (he was 4 months old) and I sniffed him and as soon as he touched me with those nasty puppy nippers, I ran from him! OUCH!
We can't wait to see pictures of Cassidy with Harry! Good luck!

Love ya lots,
Maggie

Such great puppy pics! Bet you can't wait to get Cassidy in your arms! Congratulations! If you bring Harry you'll need a safe place for the C-man in case they don't hit it off right away. I'll bet Harry says, "Hmm. She didn't look preggers..."

Mojo, Digger and family said...

Those photos are amazing, especially that last one. A whole heap of cuteness. Airedales are so funny at that age - they have little button noses but vast shovels for front feet. Kind of like moles, built to dig, dig, dig.

I don't have any advice for how Harry and Cassidy should get acquainted, but I'm sure that having a crate for Cassidy will ease a lot of territorial anxiety. Little puppies seem to have a 'puppy pass' which is recognised by most dogs, so Harry will probably not see Cassidy as a threat - just a nuisance if he gets too harrassed. Ensuring he gets a bit of peace and quiet every now and than will probably be all he needs.

We really, really can't wait for Cassidy to arrive!

How exciting bringing Cassidy home on friday. Whoo hoo
I would leave Harry at home so that Cassidy can be held by you on the way home as its a very big day for him.
At home we would introduce Harry to Cassidy with Harry on lead allowing Cassidy and him to meet but having control of Harry. Once the situation is calm let the lead go and the two get to know each other better. This is what we have done with all the thuglets and it has always worked well.
Good luck and we'll be thinking of you on friday.

Gordy was brought home to Georgie after he got the vet. clearance. He was from a puppy mill and not very clean on adoption day. Once Georgie realized that Gordy was a very shy fellow who realized she was the Queen, all went very well. All of those Airedale puppies are adorable-it would be hard to decide on which one to adopt.

I can't wait till Cassidy comes home! We are so excited for you. Mum had Gracie and I meet on neutral turf at the vets office that was keeping Gracie while she was looking for her furever home. It worked real well for us and I'm kind of testy sometime. The kitties were a little surprised when we came home though, BOL!!! Woofs, Johann

JAZZ AND DIXIE said...

Hi,
That last photo is card/calendar material - it is so cute!!! We are very excited that you guys will soon be bringing home Cassidy. When we first bought Dixie home a little over a year ago Jazz was so jealous and wouldn't let Dixie play with any toys not even those that came with Dixie. Jazz had always been my number one baby who we spoilt and at first she didn't want to share the attention with Dixie. To look at them now you would never know that as Jazz loves Dixie now and being the order sister, is always looking out for Dixie as I'm sure Harry will do for Cassidy. Harry is still getting used to his new home too so maybe he will be more willing to share his space with his new little brother. You had also mentioned in a previous post that Harry had been with younger dogs in his previous family. Oh how exciting to be bringing home a new little puppy.

I met Toto for the first time in our house. At that time I was more curious than upset about a new dog. I thought he was just visiting. I sniffed him thoroughly then proceeded to try to get him to play. So it would seem that I don't have a jealous bone in my body unless its Mummy's bed!

So, so CUTE!!! Bet you all are so excited!
As for the introductions, mom says to try what she does with the rescue dogs that come through the house. Come home with the new dog and put it on a leash and hea outside...then someone else go in and get the other one an head outside too...let them meet on a walk on completely neuteral ground...but go for a walk!! Walks always get their minds on other things than the new dog and lets them begin to think of each other as a pack...it works!! heheheh!

Good luck! We can't wait to see more pics of Cassidy!

My girl and I are so excited for you guys! We're still getting used to having a pup in the house, but we've got our routine down, for the most part.

Can't wait to see which one is Cassidy, and to see him with his big and burly brother, Harry.

Lots of photos, please!!!!! (But, I'm sure you're busy, so post whenever you can).

those little kiddos are sooo cute. we really like their floppy ears!

when I, Bailey, was the only dog, mom took me with her to get Baxter. that was fine.

then when it was me and Baxter, all of a sudden one day she came home with Brody, which was fine. then another day she came home with Benson, which was fine too.

we all liked each other from the beginning and the puppies have always looked to the older dogs for guidance and well as bringing the lively playful attitude with them.

it's all good.

So excited for you all!!!!!!!!

We had the boys meet on neutral turf to be sure there was not aggression at first sight. But that didn't preclude there being a lot of sorting out when we got home -- chasing round and round and round the coffee table and playing tug-a-dog. The important thing is to reinforce whoever is the "alpha" and accuse both no matter who is the "guilty" party.

At least that's what Mom and Dogdad do....

Hi Katy & Martin,

I'm Smitty, a wire hair fox terrier from upstate New York. My mom, "big sister" Jessie (a cocker spaniel) and I have been following Harry's and Cassidy's blog from the beginning (great fun!) and knew about dear Oscar through Asta's blog (as well as others.)

When my mom picked me up from my breeder she brought Jessie along so we could get acquainted. Jessie didn't quite know what to make of me but we get along fine.

Mom says that she brought Jessie so she wouldn't spring a surprise (me!) on her when she brought me home. This way, Jessie & I had a head start getting to know one another in the two hour car ride home. I guess my terrier charm won her over!

Congratulations on both Harry & Cassidy - can't wait to see which one is Cassidy!

Your pal,
Smitty
