Remembering Oscar 28/05/2006 - 28/07/2007

It's one year today since our darling Oscar died so tragically and suddenly. While not wanting to be morose, we do feel it's important to keep his memory alive and remember annivesaries such as this and his birthday. In some ways it seems like the awful events of last year were only yesterday, such is the pain and loss we still feel, but in other ways it seems like a lifetime since we last cuddled, played and generally shared our lives with him. While we have obviously come to accept his death, the feeling of injustice and the shock of it will probably always remain.

We are thankful of the 10 months we got to spend with you Oscar, and despite the pain of losing you so young and so unexpectedly, we will be forever grateful that you came bowling into our lives as a 14 week old ball of fuzz.

Rest in peace Oscar. In our hearts for ever and ever.

Katy, Martin, Harry, Cassidy --

We agree, it's important to remember days like today -- it's not morose, it's just loving.

We think of Oscar a lot, since we joined the DWB in late June and had barely gotten to know anyone on the DWB. Except we discovered Oscar, and we were astounded at what a sweet, funny, always there little guy he was. And then the outpouring of concern when he died taught us a lot about how the love of a dog can unite people into a caring community.

So, yes, we're thinking about Oscar today too. On a brighter note, July 28, today, is eight years since my now-husband took me out to dinner at a special place and proposed... so sadness thinking about Oscar and happiness at how my own life turned around are forever joined on July 28.

Love and hugs,

Joan -- by permission of Jake and Just Harry

For some reason Oscar touched my heart more than any other lovely doggin on DWB... and I still cry when I think of his wonky eyebrows and endearing grin and what we all missed out on when he passed too soon. Take time to smile over the good memories and tell Harry and Cassidy his stories. He will forever be in our hearts....

Love and peace to you.

Dear Katie & Martin,
Losing someone you love, whether it is a furry friend or a loved one is so difficult, especially when it happened so suddenly. I can relate to what you said about the 'feeling of injustice and the shock' cos I felt exactly like this after my miscarriage. I reckon the day Oscar left, he took away a piece of your hearts with him, and ours too. He must be watching over the antics of his little sister with a proud smile on his handsome face (and probably feeling sorry for Harry for having to take on the 'big brother' role!)
Somehow I feel that Oscar is still sharing his adventures with us through Harry and Cassidy.

XOXO,
Huskee and his mom

Just looking at your photo collage of Oscar brings back so many memories. Before I began Kirby's blog, I would read all of the doggie blogs that I could find and I just loved Oscars. His blog was my inspiration for starting Kirby's. Oscar was a wonderful dog whose life is celebrated through the pictures and posts you have of him. I'm so happy that you chose to celebrate the life that he had! I hope he is watching over all of you from the rainbow brige and guiding Harry and Cassidy through each day!! :-)
